In 2016, Clear to Work became an accredited agency of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and have since assisted hundreds of thousands of people obtain a background check. We work with the best of Australia’s cybersecurity firms to ensure the security of our platforms, and all data remains housed in Australia.
Our comprehensive selection of accredited training courses were created in consultation with industry experts and meet the national standards under the Australia Qualifications Framework. Our extensive range of micro-credential courses provide participants with a specialised insight into real-world employment scenarios, helping people become job/promotion ready.
Clear to Work was created by Brendan Power and like all good stories, his started in a pub. No, really, Brendan was born in a pub, and since day one has been immersed in the world of hospitality. Son of the great Queensland entrepreneur and businessman Bernie Power who, among many successful businesses, founded Power’s Brewing during the Australian beer wars of the late 1980s. If you didn’t know the beer wars were a ‘thing’ back in the 1980s, a) have you ever heard of anything more Australian? and b) you’re welcome for the history lesson.
Brendan went on to own and operate a number of establishments both in Australia and overseas and has been a part of the Brisbane Broncos Leagues Club Board from 2016 to 2024, including becoming Chair in 2020. To say that Brendan has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry is an understatement.
When the idea came from a business partner to expand into the hospitality training space, Brendan was a natural choice and has since grown Clear to Work into the dynamic, leading-edge business it is today.
Brendan has curated an executive team with a rich history in the hospitality industry to drive the Clear to Work mission and vision forward. Our goal is to make the barrier of entry into the hospitality industry as low as possible by providing low cost, accessible training and certifications. Clear to Work has also pioneered training and police checks in the corporate space by creating platforms that provide ease of procurement and management of the products and services we provide.

We comply with all processes and protocols issued by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) www.acic.gov.au We have been an approved Police Checking Agency of ACIC for the past 7 years. Clear to Work has recently undergone and security and protocol audit by BES Securities and passed- 100%. This Audit was based on securities measures required by ACIC.
Data access is on a permission basis only and is password protected.
Data is stored on an external server through Micron 21 based in Melbourne Australia. No data is ever located outside of these confines.
We take our backups daily which are stored on RAID arrays, we also use offsite backups from the main server of our systems which are done on a daily basis, in accordance with ACIC requirements.
Different offices have different ICT protocols and security controls. Can you please alert your IT team to whitelist our domain and IP address, cleartowork.com.au and our IP address (27.131.106.20) as you will be receiving a lot of information from us via these links.
Once a candidate has proven their identity to us, our role is to pass this compliant application along to the National Police Checking Service (NPCS).
This is where our (and any other agency for that matter) direct influence ends - we are all at the mercy of the Police in terms of “how long it takes to get a check back”.
We process some 1500 checks per week and some come back within 15 minutes, some 24 hours, some a few days…others a couple of weeks. Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule as to why.
We understand this is frustrating and that some agencies are promoting “promised turn-around times” in their Google advertising, but this is simply untrue.
For our part, Clear to Work has invested heavily in designing a platform (desktop/mobile) that assists candidates to quickly and easily submit a compliant application and our team is dedicated to working with candidates to achieve this compliance in a timely manner.
